Issue with Keychain access on Mac OS X 10.11.1 (El Capitan)

Platform(s): Mac OSX 10.11.1-10.11.4 Product(s): VNC Version(s): 5.2.3+

Cause

It is not possible to fully interact with Keychain access permissions dialogs in El Capitan 10.11.1 - 10.11.4 with Security Update 2015-007 installed. These dialogs can be displayed by the Keychain Access application, but also triggered by other applications such as Xcode when first trying to use a new signing key.

The issue is not specific to VNC, it aso affects Apple Screen Sharing and Remote Desktop server or access via the OS X virtual keyboard. The symptom is that the user is unable to confirm the dialog and can only click the “Deny” button. Clicking any of the confirm buttons causes them to animate as if clicked but the dialog is not dismissed.

Our analysis indicates that this is a deliberate change by Apple to address CVE-2015-5943.

Resolution

If you have physical access to the machine, import Keychain items using the physical keyboard

If you don't have access to the physical machine, use Apple's security command line tool. See your Apple documentation for more information.

Update: Upgrade to Mac OS X 10.11.5.
